Joe
McSorley Started his training in 1972 in Master Mark’s school in Philadelphia
Chinatown. He also studied Shotokan
karate under Sensei Okasaki and Aikido under sensei Muriyama, but found Mark’s
mantis to be the most intelligent and well-rounded style so he devoted all his
time to it. In the early 1980’s he
traveled to NYC Chinatown over a two-year period to study qigong with Sifu
Mantak Chia where he learned the microcosmic orbit, iron shirt, and fusion of
five elements qigong. He has been a
student of Chan/Zen Buddhism since 1971 under Richard DeMartino, a disciple of
D.T.Suzuki and later under Masao Abe of the Kyoto School of Zen. Joe has also spent over a decade working on
sports broadcasts particularly with boxing, including Friday Night Fights
(ESPN), Showbox and HBO’s Boxing After Dark.
As a result of his constant exposure to professional fighters he is
concerned with the real time application of Mark’s Jook Lum that he finds works
so well in these situations.
